PGS and ION Announce 2D Seismic Collaboration in West Africa

A new collaboration between PGS and ION will offer E&P companies access to their combined 2D seismic coverage of West Africa, from Cote d’Ivoire to Namibia. The companies’ data libraries are a good match, offering maximum diversity and relatively little overlap.

There is continuing interest in exploration opportunities offshore West Africa. Success requires an understanding of the subsurface geology at basin scale, across country boundaries, to manage risk and measure the local hydrocarbon potential. Large-scale screening enables greater efficiency when assessing regional prospectivity.

The combined PGS and ION 2D coverage comprises over 100 000 line km of 2D seismic (see map).

Oil companies will now be able to analyze 2D seismic datasets across almost the entire sub-Sahel offshore West African oilfield, to unlock a deeper understanding of subsurface trends and untapped potential.

“The combined 2D libraries of PGS and ION will offer a unique resource for exploration. From the Cretaceous channels and fans of Cote d’Ivoire, though Nigeria's marine shales and alluvial deposits, presalt and the Transform Margin, all the way south through the prodigious Angola / Namibia oilfield, West Africa is very popular with E&P companies seeking attractive frontier investment opportunities,” promises PGS SVP New Ventures Rob Adams.
