PGS and EGAS have completed an extensive 3D GeoStreamer data acquisition and imaging project in Egypt’s west Mediterranean Sea. The West Egypt GeoStreamer 3D Merge allows explorers a far more detailed overview of the plays and structures. It builds on the overview of the regional geology and structure provided by 2D data acquired in 2016 and 2018.

Rapid Evaluations and Screening
For explorers evaluating opportunities offshore Egypt, the shelf area will rank high as a focus for initial targets, as this is an extension of the proven fairway of the onshore Western Desert. Farther into the basin, there are potential shelf-edge structures and carbonate buildups, some of which are sealed by Messinian evaporites. In deeper water, plays relating to pre-Messinian salt structures and pinch-out features against the shelf edge will also be of interest to anyone looking for Mediterranean plays.
West Egypt remains a frontier area and the new GeoStreamer 3D Merge is an ideal screening product for companies seeking to rapidly evaluate its subsurface potential, prior to investing in pre-stack seismic products or bidding on blocks.

Updated West Egypt Interpretation
A new interpretation by Petroguide for PGS is also available, based on both 2D and 3D GeoStreamer data. The study builds on the “West Mediterranean offshore interpretation study” from 2017. Petroguide used GeoStreamer 2D and reprocessed legacy 2D data from 2016 and 2018, as well as two legacy 3D datasets, and a study linking the onshore western desert to the offshore. Additional well analysis, geoseismic sections and updated leads are available.
